Scholarships and Fellowships

India Policy Foundation (IPF) awards Scholarships and Fellowships to deserving researchers and scholars on regular basis. These financial assistance offers are available for study and research on topics approved by IPF Academic Committee. The Scholarships and Fellowships are awarded for research work for a duration ranging from six months to one year.

Interested researchers and scholars can apply for these academic assistance programmes. Selection will be done on the basis of academic competence of the candidate for the desired research work.

Researchers applying for scholarships or fellowships available at IPF can submit their proposals for the topics offered by the IPF Academic Committee. IPF reserves the right to modify the topic or assign another appropriate topic for research to the deserving candidate. In addition to the topics shortlisted by IPF Academic Committee, interested candidates can also submit proposals for other topics of critical importance. However, the final decision regarding selection of the topics and research proposals will be of IPF.

Scholarships and Fellowships will be paid in instalments as per the progress of the research work assigned to each selected candidate. Each selected candidate is expected to submit progress report in the first week of every month during fellowship work. The final instalment will be released after submission and approval of the final research report written in an appropriate format as desired by the IPF Academic Committee. The research report can be written either in Hindi or English.

About Kali Charan Dass Puri
Kali Charan Dass Puri (Jan 24, 1939 – August 8, 2009) was highly inspired by the nationalistic ideas during the freedom movement. Puri was born and raised in a traditional rural middle class family in Mullanpur near Chandigarh in Punjab. Poverty and lack of resources could not deter him from perusing his studies and gaining purposeful knowledge. He studied by literally burning midnight oil because he didn’t have electricity at home to study. But he exhibited great resilience and remained unperturbed by all socio-economic odds and completed degree in engineering. After independence, as a mining engineer he formed Engineering Consultancy Firm Emdescon Engineers Private Limited. He contributed immensely in the field of mining industry as an entrepreneur.

Being a liberal democrat, Kali Charan Puri remained engaged in charitable acivities and educational assistance programmes for underprivileged youth during his life time. He wanted India to emerge as a leader of the world in knowledge and industry. Therefore, he believed that research should be promoted in every aspect of life. His orientation towards educational cause inspired his family to create a fund at IPF to promote research and studies.
